This sentence alone pinpoints just how much we are forced to express Christian views by all of those around us.

There is the assumption that this woman is Christian

Of course there is the factor that a majority of the US considers themselves Christian.

But rather than asking what her beliefs were or if she felt thanks to any higher power he automatically just went with the idea that she must be Christian.

This does not just erase atheists from the idea, it erases all other religions (more on that in a moment)

By saying this as an affirmative phrase this reporter makes it so that she must challenge his comment to put in her own personal view.

There is no way to say ‘not really’ without putting out there that you dissent with the statement.

You can’t even, if you are Christian, respond with anything that puts the grace and thanks on other people rather than implying that all of this good event was up to “the lord” without, again, sounding confrontational

(Note that this is probably why she has the big smile on her face, presenting the dissension of the statement with a calm and sweet attitude prevents it from being argumentative.)

By saying that the thanks should be directed to “the lord” restricts what religious basis this statement is directed to.

“the lord” has a very low use by any but the Christian community when in reference to God or Jesus.

Other religions which use comparable terms often use the original term rather than a translated one (After all if they translated it all Muslims would be saying Our Lord, God.)

Please note that I am not saying this one reporter is to blame, nor am I saying that he alone should watch how he addresses these questions, but instead that this is a fundamental practice of media to put Christianity into everything. By making affirmative statements like this they are pushing people into expressing similar beliefs.

Please help with diversity awareness and acceptance style of addressing religious subjects.
